AVEDA™ has manufactured environmentally-friendly, award-winning, flower & plant-based hair & beauty products, since 1978.
From it's beginnings as a small company with an Earth-friendly philosophy well ahead of it's time in the hair & beauty industry of the 1970's and 80's AVEDA has developed and grown to become a Global Leader in sustainable manufacturing, environmental responsibility, energy conservation, packaging, and recycling; and an international force in conservation, fair trade, indigenous rights, and community-based environmental & social support.
Throughout it's history, AVEDA has led by example.
In 1992, AVEDA launched ‘Earth Day’, which has now developed into the annual ‘Earth Month’ Campaign raising $2.1 million, over 30 days in 2007, to support Clean Water rights.
In 1993, AVEDA formed the first of many indigenous partnerships, with the Yawanawa tribe of the Brazilian Rainforest, to source ‘uruku’, a red dye used in the AVEDA makeup range. In 2002, a much closer-to-home partnership with the indigenous communities of the Mardu and Kuktabubba peoples in Western Australia was developed to sustainably source sandalwood.
In 2002, AVEDA launched a pioneering range of 100% post-consumer PET packaging; followed in 2003 by a Refillable Lip Colour Accessory Case, made from 90% post-consumer recycled resins; and a ‘clamshell’ makeup package, made from 100% post-consumer recycled newspaper.
In 2007, AVEDA became the first hair & beauty company to manufacture using 100% ‘certified wind power’; with funding of new wind energy sources generating enough wind energy to offset 100% of the electricity used by the company's primary manufacturing facility, distribution center, and corporate headquarters.
In 1997, AVEDA launched the world's first 97% naturally-derived Permanent Hair Colour an almost unimaginable advance in the hairdressing industry at the time.
This was followed, in 1998, by the signature AVEDA Full Spectrum™ Hair Colour range a complete professional hair colour system that is 99% naturally-derived. The AVEDA hair colour system we use at Emm today is a modern evolution of that pioneering Full Spectrum range.
